Tanin - Cthratos by silvestris Tanin - Cthratos by silvestris
Cthratos, the sleek draconic unicorn of my post-Pangaea story Tanin, in his true as well as humanoid shape.
This character is a goodguy, despire his fearsome looks. ... Well, he opposes the badguys, anyway. That pretty much makes him the protagonist.
Though I suppose it's a matter of fighting on the right side rather than doing the right things - this ancient, ruthless creature will shy away from no means to reach his goal; the obliteration of the enemies who oppose him.

Media used: Corel Photopaint 9, Wacom Graphire3 tablet.
Character and image are silvestris (me) and my NOT be used in any way without my permission.

This is soooo gorgeous. I don't even know where to begin explaining what I love. The movement of it is beautiful - the movement of the hair - and I love the expressions. From those narrowed eyes, you can definitely tell they're the same. The jagged ear rather than a simple pointed is really neat; and I can't stop staring at the luminous jewel on his forehead, which seems so three-dimensional.

Wow, this work is truly stunning--your use of the darker shades in particularly is spectacular. I love your outlook on the unicorn--the more delicate, longer-limbed frame and slender petite head give it a definite separation from a horse. The hooves also seem elongated to me, and it's an interesting look. I'm in love with the mane as well, the fan of it is remarkable in adding life to the picture. Beautiful work!

I like the native american look you gave the character. Kind of like ElfQuest....ok, I am rambling.

I've noticed that the style in which you drew the the unicorn is different from the style of the cat in your Pantheros pic. While the cat seemed to look almost something like a photo, while in this case the unicorn looks very stylized. Feh, like I know anything.

Keep up the wonderful work!

Well, that goes for both face and animal - this was the first one I did. For the other I had already experimented with the concept, so I could put more attention into the details.
Then again, I like stylized as well as photo-realistic - most of my art tends to end up somewhere in between. ;)

This is a marvelous picture. I like how it draws your eyes towards his human form. I really would like to draw realism, but I have no idea how to.:(

this is absolutely gorgeous! i was thinking that his eyes really looked reptilian, then i remembered he's a draconic unicorn and that effect was intentional. with the white shiny spots they look 3D too. his skin tone is so nice. really dark. the creature is also interesting. i like how the hair is all fanned out but with little breaks in it, like a feather when you seperate it. i like the really long ears on him. but the horn doesn't look like it connects to his head as realisticaly as it should. the background looks almost like it's a photo reference that's been doctored up. either that or it's just a very realistic job with digital media. i don't remember the Tanin story though. oh my, i'll have to go back and reaquaint myself i suppose.

*sighs* Silvetris, this is showing up very dark on my comp, it there a lighter version at your site? I love your pangea work, I had a fun time at your site viewing all of it as it's soo beautiful. (I tried full screening but it didn't help..>.<")

Nope, there is no lighter version. The picture itself is very dark, so there is a risk it'll show up reeeally dark on some monitors. Were I to lighten it, howver, it'd look washed out on most other screens, including my own. :/

This is so magnificent - may I please use the image as a background on my computer? Or do you charge for things like that? I don't wish in any way to steal it - your genius deserves proper recognition!

It's the the same basic design as in his unicorn-shape ( only less hairy and portruding. ,) You just can't see the split tops of the unicorn's ears very well with the dark shading.

You know, I'm just glad someone FINALLY got the unicorn right! Everyone just draws a horse with a horn, but that's not what a unicorn really looks like. So thumbs up x50 just for that.
