A self-portrait made for the Fairytale Makeover project. [link] The glowing little girl being painted to life is inspired by John Bauer's Princess Tuvstarr.

Tried another technique for this, values + overlay colors instead of the other way around as I usually go about painting. I'm actually very pleased with how it came out; no textures or brushes (aside from the chain-brush which I made myself), just hand painted all the way through. Will probably play around more with this technique. :)

Fun fact: I actually own those viking style hairpins; [link] - they come in bone or horn and were designed by myself.

Wow! What an intense expression! And so ethereal with the lighting and figurine and moonlit night in the back!

Thank you so much! I'm especially flattered you like it, since it's supposed to be something of a self-portrait.

i hope you do play around and use this technique more. really nice. .... if this is a self portrait ... you look devious. ;) love the hair piece and the trees in the background. nice bits of embelishment.

I intend to, whenever I get the time to draw more things for my own sake. It was a fun technique to play with, and I can definitely see how it's really useful for many types of drawing.

And yes, whilst perhaps a tad touched up and based on an older photo, you'd probably recognize me from it - especially the eyes and nose. Devious is probably right. :D

Once again, the amount of details you put into this image is beyond stunning; only the little glowing girl actually looks painted (I know this is your intention), the rest could very well be a photo. :)
The coloring is simply amazing; the face looks so real I could imagine just stretching out my hand and touch her cheek. Though, regarding the potential malice in her glance this might be a bad idea...

Anyway, this is a stunning artwork that deserves to be noticed! :D
