Moribund - Jessica by silvestris Moribund - Jessica by silvestris
Jessica Thomas was not a Chosen One. She hasn't a single little supernatural power, not one prophecy mentions her name and there's a distinctive lack of zombie-vampires going glittery and watching her sleep.

She was always a restless troublemaker, changing classes like others change socks, getting into fights and testing every boundary available, never managing to keep her interest in any one subject up for long.

Then the apocalypse came along, which was a major bummer, but it did deliver a clear purpose for her life. Splattering zombie-guts all over the nearby scenery is just one of those things you just don't get tired of, you know? The remains of mankind can thus sleep soundly in their beds, knowing she and her gang keep the streets clean and undead-free.

She's probably no less unhinged than her two back-up snipers, but she's cute, funny and got boobs, so no-one notices much.

Seriously, I think she's even more unhinged than the two... certainly her tastes. :XD: But she is cute, yes. :)

Oh, I'm sure elderly gay snipers was an acquired taste, too. XD
But yes, the mutual crazy probably helped... ;)

:XD:

How did these three even meet and get together? Emilio might be happy to have someone to work with after he lost his mafia, but I'd expect John to be used to working alone... and certainly not with crazy teenager girls. :D

They're all part of the same small colony of survivors after the apocalypse. Jessica was one of the founders, and when John passed through the neighborhood with a couple of other survivors in tow quite some time later, they were invited to stay. John first declined on principle, but Jessica persuaded him to hang around just for a short while as they could really use the backup and could offer shelter, food and protection in return. (She is capable of being very business-like when called for.) Recognizing the advantages of safety in numbers he somewhat reluctantly agreed, and just never got around to leaving.

Emilio was the leader of an another enclave of survivors on the other side of town until very recently - a very differently run one, with military discipline under martial law, enforced by his personal little army. But it was working, very well, until the undead breached the stronghold one night and a veritable massacre ensued. In the chaos Emilio fought desperately to save the situation, but in the end it stood clear there would be no survivors and he had to run for his life. Sheer dumb luck had him hounded in the general direction of the Library-colony, and finally took him and his pursuers into John's line of fire. Which was lucky for him, but not the zombie-vampires. X3

In the end, he's allowed to join the Library-colony half on probation - his way of running his settlement was not popular, and probably more than one of the Library colony's denizens were turned away from there and suffered greatly for it before they found new shelter. He's not very popular, understandably, and not one bit trusted.
John doesn't mind, though. Emilio on watch/firearm back-up duty on the roof with him means half the work for him, with the added benefits of total eyecandy and having someone inferior at sniping to be snarky at. X3

Thank you so much for yet another story snippet. :aww:
Which brings me to yet another question... considering the relationship between John and Jessica, is Emilio safe from the dreaded butt-checking gentleman or not? :D

Haha, I've told you before, it doesn't take much to set off my rabmlings. XD

And of course he isn't. They're a threesome with loyalty, bickering and sexual tension working all ways. X3

Thankfully so. :XD:

Ooooh, sounds yummy. So... Emilio also decides to choose his battles after a while or what? :XD:

Something like that, yes. They are sort of mutually dependent in a dangerous world. They may not always like each other, but they are brothers in arms of a sort. And John can be every bit as persuasive as Jessica...

I adore her design and that hair... :o like it has a mind of it's own!
She looks so casual and calm, but I'm also getting this devious, dangerous view of her given the background. :)
I love how realistic you've done all their designs and the actual drawings, they just look amazing.

I love drawing her hair. <3

Most of the time she's just an ordinary bubbly, funny teenage girl. Except when she's kicking undead ass in the ghostly ruins of civilization. u.u
I think it's that mix of silly and grim I really like about her.

I can understand why X3

Ah yes, what it is to be young these days XD
I think it's a good idea to have that semi-childish influence in a time of anarchry :)

Beautiful faces and strong character in all of these! Love this one in particular due to the charisma and how she comes off as someone with an unusual personality that could stand to look closer at. :D

From the 3, I feel she has less "essence". But don't take offense, you build your chars as you saw fit. But she has some strong male chars there and it feels a bit she's just there... to, like you said, have boobs... xD

Haha! I'd really rather say it's the other way around; she's by far the most colorful personality of them, and she is the one firmly in charge. Hopefully it'll become more apparent as I post more stuff with them all. :)

We'll see. For now I really can't see how a rascal can be in charge over an experienced sniper and a mafia dude. :) Just my outside opinion...

They were later additions to the colony of survivors, and only dropped in one by one after Jessica and her wolf pack of streetfighters had already kept their small territory safe for years. (being young and female allows them to fly under the radar in a world where the enemy hunt by specific scent, making them the most suited for urban guerrilla warfare).

I wouldn't brush Jessica aside as a spunky rascal. She's streetsmart and tough and has not only survived the end of the world, but spent the last three years at war. She's clever and ruthless where need be, loyal to the end and commanding a lot of respect among her peers.

John will weigh in with opinions and advice at times, and when he does it's pretty much always heeded, but for the most part he distances himself from the day-to-day decision making of the colony. And Emilio may be a good tactician who'd love to be in charge, but no-one really trusts him, especially not with any position of influence. X3

Like I said, for now she looks like a rascal. And still, in my opinion, you can't measure the intelligence and life experience of a sniper, even more a hitman, who has that kind of background (you can't say he can't be smart street or he does not have abilities to see though people, etc with his job) be less than a young girl's.

Because I am sure, the sniper/hitman wasn't pampered all this life, and even he was, again, look at this life choice. There is a certain charge in it. A young man or girl cannot achieve that... yet. So, just be sure who you think the leader is. Then again, is your story and your chars... :) So, you do whatever you want.

Again, please don't see my comments as offensive. I'm just trying to understand because I would understand Jessica as a leader in comparison with a any other victim of the "apolicalypse", but not with such strong characters aside who neither seem to have a weak character, on the contrary.

No, no, I appreciate your input! Of course, writing it up in short comments like this doesn't really present the story in the best way, but it's always good to be told of the plot-holes and problems others perceive so you can work to counter them. :)

That said, had John wanted to be in charge, he most likely would be, no doubt about it. As it is, though, he's quite content sitting back and letting others bother with the politics of decision-making. It was an unspoken mutual condition when he settled down in the colony - the ordinary people are intimidated by him, and not too thrilled to have him around, but recognize he's vastly useful. He on the other hand, passive-aggressively avoids social interaction with the mundane folk, having no interest in either befriending or antagonizing them.

He's grown very fond of Jessica, though - unlike most people, she's not afraid of him and treats him with an irreverent fondness that equally perplexes, annoys and amuses him. Unless he has good reason to disagree, he'll usually back her up - perhaps another reason why Emilio hasn't managed to gain any real position of power. He knows that should he step out of line, John is very good at staging 'accidents'.

Really, though, the entire point of the cast is that they're a tightly bonded threesome where everyone has their strengths and weaknesses, but are vital to the whole. Even if they spend most of their time bickering like a three-way married old couple. ;)

Alright, I guess it makes more sense now. thx for taking the time to explain. For now John is my favorite. And I'll probably "back him up".
