Volcano on the horizon could possibly be the still-active Sakurajima, towering over the province capital, although I think he's really from more rural areas further north-west. It's a pretty skyline, if nothing else!
Blood-red momiji because momiji trees are awesome and I've been wanting to draw some forever. Satsumas, for splashes of really bright orange in all that grey, and to represent the Satsuma province from which he hails. ^_^d
Spent a creative few hours googling all things obis to get the knot right, but if it's not, eh. It's still art nouveau - standing around dressed in only drapes and sashes is what it's all about! Artistic license ftw! 8D
