Gate of Mists - cast by silvestris Gate of Mists - cast by silvestris
So, I'm in the middle of doing a home-exam for school. As always when I have difficult and important things I should be doing, my creativity starts itching something awful.
So instead of working on that exam just yet, let's, well, let's draw something, you know, quick and easy, like, hey, why not a 7-character groupshot! And that's the way my inspiration works. Working on coloring this now, and will probably replace it with the finished version. If it ever does get finished, that is... x.x

Anyway, here we have what is currently the full cast of Gate of Mists, my latest little toy-universe/story. Left to right we have: Araphis, the 'white angel', feline guardian. Alaeitha, protagonist of the story. Angelica, her twin sister. Mary, cute little girl-ghost. Nuru-kiin, another of the guardians. Aidis, death-angel and antagonist. Maravea aka Death.

Media used: Different sketches, pencil and digital, put together and inked in Corel Photopaint 9 with my Wacom Graphire3.
Art and characters are © silvestris (me) and may not be used by anyone else.

Thanks; I'm glad you like it!
I've started coloring it, but over easter I'm staying with my parents, and don't have access to my tablet or programs, so it'll be a while longer before it's done. ^_^

Bah, why work on home exams when you can come up with pretty things such as this? :heart:
*is so delightfully irresponsible sometimes*

I've always (well, for the past two and a half years, anyway, which is about for how long I've obsessively stalked your art ^_____^ <--- Scary fan alert. *cough*) loved your character concepts, and these are no exception. You come up with the most intriguing designs. o_o I just adore your imagination. :worship:

Maravea looks lethal. :giggle: How very appropriate. xD;

<_< You should still keep this version up even if you post the colour one. I like your linearts almost as much as your finished work. o-o *favourites it*

:heart:

I can't write coherent comments these days. Sorry. ^^; Hopefully I still managed to be encouraging in some manner. xD;; Or whatever my original intention was. <_<

Why, thank you for all the praise and encouragement. XD

I'm glad you like my designs - usually it's not really something I sit down and think consciously about; they tend to just show up. Nice to know they're appreciated nonetheless. ^_^

det är definitivt intressant hur inspiration fungerar får jag påstå ^^;

en del av namnen har... elller känns så där gammelegyptiska eller möjligen gammelgrekiska... hur som helst är det ett felaktigt iaktagande? =P

:iconsilvestris:
silvestris Featured By Owner Mar 30, 2006

Still, I'm happy at how it turned out. I usually suck at doing full-body poses, so this was good practice. :)

ooh. Aidis and Maravea look quite fascinating. I love their designs, especially Maravea. She looks very goddess-like, very appropriate for Death. And Mary's very cute. Can't wait to see the story they end up in!

Drawing's more fun than exams anyway. ^__^ That happens to me all the time.

I noticed. :D I'm sensing a much more Egyptian theme running through here, even with Ailetha, in spite of her not-very-Egyptian costume (I cannot for the life of me spell her name >__< ); your other stuff (Pangaea, primarily) had more of a European feeling. But maybe that's just me...

It's always fun to try something new and interesting.

Hm, no, no that's not my aim at all... Pangaea is supposed to be anything but typical medieval Europe-inspired fantasy; it has a really heavy Norse/Egyptian/Aztec/Asian feel to it.

Gate of Mists on the other hand, is supposed to be primarily victorian England-like, with influences from other cultures mostly through the supernatural characters; Egyptian-inspired Araphis, Greek-inspired Aidis, and... well, heck if I know what Nuru-kiin is, possibly Native American or Saami or something...

And as soon as I left that last comment I realized that I should clarify. By European, I don't mean the typical "medieval France/England/Italy/Spain" kinda thing. I was more thinking of an Eastern European (Slavic and Germanic) influences, which I still lump together as "European". That, and Machra-la reminds me of nothing so much as Rome in its most decadent days, which, geographically speaking, is still in Europe. There's a little Irish in there too...

So don't worry. Pangaea isn't typical at all. :D

:iconsilvestris:

Machra-la is more Arabian Nights than anything, really; possibly with a fair share of Egyptian smex and vanity thrown in.

But no Irish, none at all. o.o
The irish/celtic style is one that have never really interested me, so there's none of it in Pangaea. Possibly it's easy to confuse the Norse/Viking/Scandinavian influences with Irish/Celtic to an outsider, but still.. ^^;d

Heh, no really, it's always helpful to hear what people think when they see your art. If others don't see what you're trying to get through in your art, you're missing some point or other. I'll just have to focus more on getting the non-european flavors through in future Pangaea-art. ;)

It certainly isn't a "typical" European-inspired fantasy, and I can definetly the Norse and Egyptian themes in there, but for some reason Pangaea seemed to have a certain European look to it. Darned if I can figure out where it's coming from, though. >__> But don't worry, it's still far from typical. :D

Something about the way that Ailetha's hair and outfit were drawn (I spell her name differently every time. >__< ) made me think "Egyptian". Maybe it's the very structured, formal way it looks...hmm. I must look into this further. *studies intently*
