I started out wanting to draw a generic elegant gothic lolita-style painting to make some prints off to sell at a convention I recently attended.
Except my mind is very, very bad
at doing 'generic'. It seems very impolite to be staring someone in the eye and being all over them with your brush-tool without even having been introduced.
And so 'generic gothic-lolita-girl' became the sad girl Alaeitha, the 'generic gothy-gloomy backdrop' became the mystic Gate of Mists, and the 'hey Silvy, hot tip - throw in a cat, that'll make it sell better!' became her feline demon-guardian Araphis, thrice cursed by the eternal sphinxes whose forbidden wisdom he long ago attempted to steal.
And the three days on the con (which was lots of fun, btw) were spent doodling
the strange duo
all over my sketchpad.
That's Silvestris trying to do generic for you.
